From Wisemans Ferry
Get on the ‘Webbs Creek Ferry’ (not the‘Wisemans Ferry’) just past the police station and cross the Hawkesbury River, follow the signs to St Albans, go exactly 5.2km.
At the ‘Webbs Creek Mt Rd’ and ‘The Grove’ signs follow the unsealed road on the left up a steep hill, over the top of the ridge and down the other side into the valley.
Immediately after you reach the flat you will see a sign on your left pointing to the Grove, the drive turns sharply left, you will see the Grove timber home. Drive past and continue along until you cannot go any further. Park the car and go to registration - Welcome!
Getting to Wisemans Ferry: From the city The Grove is a 1.5-hour drive (approx. 82km) from Sydney. This can stretch to 2.5-hours if you travel at peak times, especially if leaving Sydney on Friday afternoon. It is about the same travelling time from Gosford. Quickest way (most expensive)
Cross the harbour (if not already on the Northern side of the city) and follow the signs for Epping along the Gore Hill Freeway and then take the Lane Cove Tunnel (TOLL) and continue on the M2 motorway (TOLL).
Once through the toll, take the second exit for Castle Hill, and turn right on to Pennant Hills Road.
Take a left at Castle Hill Road and at the 2nd lot of lights turn right on to New Line Road which later becomes Old Northern Road . At this stage it is a straight run to Wisemans ferry.
Longer method (cheaper)
Cross the harbour (if not already on the Northern side of the city) and follow the signs for Longueville Road (make sure not to follow sign to Epping at this point as they will direct to the Lane Cove Tunnel toll way).
Continue along Lonueville Road and then Epping Road, from here you can follow the signs to Epping.
At Epping, take Beecroft Road all the way to Pennant Hills Road where you turn right.
Keep in the furthest left hand lane to make a left turn into Boundary Road.
Follow this all the way and turn right at the round-about onto New Line Road which later becomes Old Northern Road. At this stage it is a straight run to Wisemans ferry.
Warning: Smart phones often direct people to the Grove via Windsor – this will add an extra hour or so on to the trip – including a 23km dirt road !!!
From Parramatta
Follow Pennant Hills Road and make a left once you reach Castle Hill Road.
At the 2nd lot of lights turn right on to New Line Road which later becomes Old Northern Road. Then it's a straight run to Wisemans ferry.
From Windsor
Follow Pitt Town Road, which becomes Cattai Road.
Then Wisemans Ferry Road to Maroota.
Then turn Left on to Old Northern Road which takes you to Wisemans ferry.
From the North Shore
On Pacific Highway follow signs to Hornsby.
Once in Hornsby follow signs to Galston and then signs to Wisemans Ferry.
From Gosford
Follow directions for Sydney but make a right turn at the sign marked Wisemans Ferry, which is before the entrance to the freeway!
Follow the signs to Wisemans Ferry which will take you through Central Mangrove.
From this direction you will need to cross the Hawkesbury River via the Wisemans Ferry vehicle ferry. (information about ferries below).
From Newcastle
Follow directions to Sydney along the F3, and take the Peats Ridge exit which is approximately 8km south of Ourimbah exit.
Follow signs for Peats Ridge and Wisemans Ferry.
From this direction you will need to cross the Hawkesbury River via the Wisemans Ferry vehicle ferry. (Information about ferries below).
The Wisemans Ferry ferries (there are 2)
The Webbs Creek vehicle ferry (the one needed to reach the Grove) and
The Wisemans Ferry vehicle ferry (additional ferry those coming for Gosford, or Newcastle will have to cross)
Both ferries are free services provided by the Hawkesbury City Council, and run 24hrs a day all year. Except when both ferries are closed of servicing on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Webbs Creek Ferry is closed 9:30-11:30am , and Wisemans Ferry is closed 12:45-3pm.
Notes: There is no public transport to the Grove. If you need a lift, please arrange it over Facebook.
For food supplies – there is a large supermarket at Glenorie and at Wisemans Ferry there is an IGA
At Wisemans Ferry, there is a petrol station which sells ice
Important: Watch out for wild life. Once you leave the urban areas it is likely that you may encounter wildlife whilst driving - please take care and drive appropriately especially it dusk.
